About the North Bay Youth Choir
North Bay Youth Choir, founded in 2014, is a community youth choir for high school singers based in San Anselmo, CA. Healthy singing technique, ear training, musical expression, and a sense of community are emphasized through rehearsal and performance of choral music from many cultures and time periods. Due to the creation of the accredited Redwood High School chorus class, North Bay Youth Choir is on hiatus until further notice.
About our director:
Susie Martone is a vocalist and music educator based in Marin County. Susie grew up singing in school choirs and pursued a formal music education at James Madison University and Florida State University, where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in choral music education. She taught elementary music and high school chorus in Fairfax, Virginia before relocating to the Bay Area in 2009. Susie has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a member of the Washington Chorus, as well as other venues and choral groups in Washington, DC and San Francisco. She has directed area honor choirs in Stanislaus and Tulare-Kings County and presented interest sessions at local, regional and statewide music education conferences in California. Susie serves in leadership positions as the Choral Representative for both the Marin Music Educators Association and the Bay Section of the California Music Educators Association. Under her direction, the White Hill Middle School choral program has grown to over 120 students in three different classes over the past 6 years, and her choirs regularly receive superior ratings at festivals and competitions. Susie is currently the choral director at White Hill Middle School and the four elementary schools in the Ross Valley School District, and founding director of the North Bay Youth Choir.
